Previously serving as the Interim Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Clement has played a crucial role in shaping the college鈥檚 athletic programs. In his new position, he will lead efforts to expand and enhance the overall sports experience at 17c起草视频.

As Interim Director of Athletics, Clement will oversee a diverse range of sports offerings aimed at fostering student success both on and off the field. 17c起草视频鈥檚 athletics program features competitive teams in basketball, baseball, volleyball, cross-country, track and field, and Esports. The college competes in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball and baseball, and NJCAA Division III men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 cross-country and track and field.

These programs are designed for those who want to participate in sports in a more relaxed and social environment compared to varsity-level competition. The Paul Gerry Fieldhouse serves as the heart of athletic activity on campus. The 30,000 square foot facility serves as the center for campus athletic activity and features a comprehensive fitness center, a cardio room, an indoor running track, and courts for basketball, volleyball, tennis, badminton, and racquetball. The Fieldhouse is connected to the college鈥檚 geothermal heating and cooling system, making it the largest air-conditioned facility in the area. In addition to hosting college sports, the Paul Gerry Fieldhouse is a popular venue for community events and gatherings.

About Simon Clement

Simon Clement was named Head Coach for the NJCAA Division II Sullivan Generals Men鈥檚 Basketball team in 2023, after five years as an assistant coach. Clement was a part of four consecutive Region XV Championships; two District Championships; and earned two bids to the NJCAA DII National Tournament (4th place finish in 2021-22).

Clement was previously at the New Hampton Prep School, a boarding prep school in New Hampton, NH, where he was a member of the math faculty, and Assistant Coach for the Men’s Basketball Program.  While at  New Hampton Prep Clement was a part of two successful seasons and helped move 20 student-athletes on to play basketball at the collegiate level; 15 to the Division I level.

Prior to New Hampton Prep Clement was the Director of Basketball Operations for the University at Albany. During his time at Albany, the Great Danes won two America East Championships and earned four post season bids; two to the NCAA Tournament. Over his five years at Albany, numerous student-athletes earned All-Academic Accolades, All-Conference Honors, and multiple earned contracts to play basketball professionally. Simon also taught in Albany鈥檚 MBA program.

Clement earned his B.A. from Johnson State College and his M.B.A. from University at Albany. He played collegiate basketball at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York, and at Johnson State College in Johnson, Vermont. He also played a year of collegiate golf while at Johnson State.

President Potash expressed his excitement at joining the 17c起草视频 family. He shared his vision for the college鈥檚 future, emphasizing innovation, inclusivity, and community collaboration.

“I am honored to lead such a vibrant and dedicated community,” said President Potash. “Working together we will build on 17c起草视频鈥榮 strong foundation, making sure that our students are prepared to thrive in a rapidly changing world.”

A highlight of the night was the screening of documentary excerpts by award-winning PBS Frontline producers Martin Smith and Marcela Gaviria, that showcased the profound impact of community colleges on individuals and society. These powerful stories underscored the value of accessible, high-quality education and the transformative role that community colleges play in fostering personal and professional growth. 

The event was hosted by the 17c起草视频 Foundation Board and attended by a wide range of Sullivan County community leaders, including members of the college鈥檚 Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, and alumni, and other supporters of the college, all of whom expressed their enthusiasm for President Potash鈥檚 leadership and the college’s future prospects.

Dr. Potash assumed the presidency of the college on July 1, 2024, succeeding Officer in Charge Dr. Casey Crabill, who had been in the role since July 25, 2023. The college is grateful to Dr. Crabill for her leadership.

About Dr. David Potash

Dr. David Potash joined Wilbur Wright College as president in 2013, bringing extensive higher education administrative experience to the independently accredited Chicago community college. As president, Dr. Potash guided the 85-year-old Wright to significant increases in student success, new programs and certificates; sustained efforts at equity, community service, civic engagement, career, workforce, and apprenticeships; served the community鈥檚 growing Hispanic population; and led the creation of a Center of Excellence in Engineering and Computer Science. Wright College received Campus Compact鈥檚 Eduardo J. Padr贸n Award for Institutional Transformation in 2020 and the prestigious Seal from Excelencia in Education in 2021.

Prior to this role, he served as the Chief Academic Officer at Curry College, a four-year institution in Massachusetts, where Potash strengthened faculty development, advanced learning outcomes assessment, and enhanced Curry鈥檚 long-standing commitment to pedagogy and serving diverse learners.

He also worked for 10 years in the City University of New York system, where Potash was associate provost and assistant vice president for academic affairs at Hunter College and associate provost at Baruch College. At both institutions he had responsibilities for accreditation, curricula and program development, enrollment, and facilitating student success.

Dr. Potash holds a bachelor of arts from Rice University where he majored in English and philosophy, a master鈥檚 of art in history from New York University, and a doctorate in history from Cambridge University. He has taught composition and US history courses. Dr. Potash serves on several advisory boards and is a frequent speaker at conferences and other events.

Through ongoing efforts, it provides scholarship assistance, funding for equipment, enrichment programs, and the ability to enhance and strengthen selected academic areas and programs that prepare students for life after formal education. This accolade comes in recognition of her debut poetry collection, 鈥淔irst Time, Every Time,鈥 which was published on December 25, 2023, and was a finalist for the 2021 Brick Road Poetry Competition.

鈥淚 am honored to be recognized by my colleagues and the administration for my accomplishment,鈥 said Professor Titus. Her work has been praised for transforming the mundane into the mythic, with Jason Irwin, author of The History of Our Vagrancies, describing the collection as 鈥渇eral and alive like the hot breath of birth,鈥 noting its playfulness, humor, and devotion to craft.

Louisa Lam, collaborator on Asian American Modernism with Abang-guard, added, 鈥淔irst Time, Every Time is a ride-along with an earth goddess disguised as a bartender, poet, mother, lover, and teacher. Tactile, nervy, sticky, glimmering, and foreboding, Titus is incapable of spinning without belief, incanting, manifesting and celebrating the flawed and feckless life of the loving and well-loved.鈥

Professor Titus has been a dedicated faculty member at 17c起草视频 for 20 years, receiving the Chancellor鈥檚 Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2015. Her tenure at the college is marked by her commitment to both her students and her craft.

In addition to her academic and literary achievements, Professor Titus has an impressive list of accolades, including serving as the 2020-2021 Poet Laureate of Sullivan County, NY, receiving a 2021-2022 DVAA Individual Artist Fellowship, and being nominated for a 2020 Pushcart Prize. Her poems have been featured in various esteemed publications such as Barrow Street, The Carolina Quarterly, and The Packingtown Review.

Professor Titus continues to enrich the literary and academic community from her home in Sullivan County, New York, where she balances her roles as a bartender, teacher, and poet.

Singer is the former dean of the School of Undergraduate Studies at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. He has a strong background in distance learning, assessment of prior learning for credit, and pedagogy and has helped create work-ready programs that integrate student services using flexible delivery models鈥攐nline, in- person, and hybrid.

鈥淐ommunity colleges play a crucial role in our communities, and this is the moment for us to shine and to take a leadership role in preparing the workforce and citizenry that we will need in the future,鈥 said Singer. 鈥17c起草视频鈥檚 goals align with my own sense of mission, which comes from my own experience as a first-generation college student.鈥

Singer began his tenure at 17c起草视频 Monday, February 14, and replaces Lawrence Weill who had been serving as interim vice president for academic and student affairs.

Singer holds an EdD in Distance Education from Athabasca University, Alberta, Canada, a MPhil in American Studies from New York University, a MA in American Studies from the University of Alabama, and a BA in English/American Civilization from Oberlin College, Ohio.

About Marc Singer
Marc Singer is the new vice president for academic and student affairs at 17c起草视频. He has spent most of his academic career working to improve educational options for nontraditional and adult learners. He has led programs and initiatives in the areas of online learning; integration of
student services and mentoring into the curriculum; prior learning assessment, including portfolio development and assessment; credit-by-exam programs; and the review of training programs, licenses, and certifications for college-level equivalency. Singer has also led efforts in the areas of competency-based education and the effective utilization of open educational resources. He has created partnerships and consortia to streamline and scale processes, strengthen standards, and provide greater flexibility and access to adult students. For seven years, he served as director and chair of the National Institute on the Assessment of Adult Learning. Singer was founding dean of the School of Undergraduate Studies at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. Prior to that, he was vice provost, Center for the Assessment of Learning, at Thomas Edison State University in Trenton, NJ. Previously, he led academic initiatives for the College Board鈥檚 College-Level Examination Program and other assessment programs; at Educational Testing Service, he was an assessment specialist responsible for the Advanced Placement US History and Human Geography programs, and was a program director for the PSAT/ NMSQT program.
Singer taught history and humanities at institutions in New Jersey and North Carolina for 12 years, and worked as a consultant in history for various museums and television networks, including ESPN Classic.
